Custom Knitwear by Yarn & Material

Yarn & Material Options for Custom Knitwear

Yarn selection influences the hand feel, weight, warmth, drape, stitch definition, durability and cost of a knitted garment.

We support fashion brands in developing custom knitwear using commonly available yarn and material options, including Merino wool, cashmere, cotton, wool blends and other commercial blends.

The appropriate yarn is selected together with the garment design, gauge, knit structure, intended season, target hand feel and price requirements.

Merino Wool Knitwear

Merino wool is widely used for sweaters, cardigans and other knitwear where softness, warmth and natural fiber performance are important.

Development considerations can include wool fineness, yarn count, ply, gauge, garment weight, stitch structure, hand feel and finishing requirements.

The final specification depends on the intended product rather than the fiber name alone.

Cashmere & Cashmere Blend Knitwear

Cashmere can be used for lightweight sweaters, cardigans and other soft knitwear where hand feel and refined appearance are priorities.

Depending on budget and product positioning, brands may consider pure cashmere or cashmere blends. Yarn composition, count, gauge, construction and finishing all affect the final garment appearance and cost.

Cotton Knitwear

Cotton is suitable for a wide range of knitted tops, sweaters and cardigans, particularly for transitional seasons and styles requiring a natural, breathable hand feel.

Different cotton yarn structures and blends can be considered according to garment weight, stitch definition, drape and target price.

Wool & Commercial Yarn Blends

Blended yarns allow brands to balance hand feel, durability, structure, performance and cost.

Depending on the product requirements, knitwear may use wool blends, cotton blends or combinations with synthetic fibers such as nylon, acrylic or elastane.

We evaluate material options according to the actual design and commercial requirements rather than recommending one fiber for every project.

Matching Yarn, Gauge & Knit Structure

Yarn cannot be selected independently from gauge and stitch construction.

A fine-gauge sweater and a chunky cable-knit garment require different yarn counts, machine setups and structural considerations. Depending on the project, production may involve gauges such as 3GG, 5GG, 7GG, 12GG or 14GG, subject to yarn count, stitch construction and manufacturing capability.

During development, we coordinate yarn selection, gauge, knit structure and sampling so that the finished garment can be evaluated for weight, drape, appearance and fit before bulk production.

Material Verification & Production

Where a project requires certified, recycled or branded materials, supporting documentation should be reviewed according to the specific yarn or material program.

Material claims are not made solely on the basis of a supplier description. Relevant documentation and supply-chain information should be confirmed before certification or branded-material claims are used for the finished product.

Custom knitwear production generally starts from 200 pieces per style, depending on yarn, color, construction and project requirements.
