Wool-Blend Yarn & Mid-Gauge Development
Wool and wool-blend yarns can be developed for this half zip sweater according to the required garment weight, hand feel, warmth and surface appearance.
This style uses a 7GG–9GG mid-gauge construction. The final garment weight should not be determined by gauge alone: yarn thickness, fiber composition, stitch density and knit structure also influence warmth, bulk, drape and hand feel.
Yarn and gauge should therefore be evaluated together during sample development rather than specifying a gauge independently from the required garment characteristics.
Half Zip Collar & Zipper Development
The zipper is a functional component of the garment construction rather than simply a decorative trim.
Development options can include:
- Stand collar height and shape
- Zipper length
- Metal zipper finish and color
- Zipper tape color
- Collar opening dimensions
- Body and sleeve measurements
- Yarn composition and yarn count
- 7GG or 9GG construction
- Custom yarn colors
- Main and care labels
- Hangtags and packaging
The zipper specification should be confirmed during sampling together with the collar structure and knitted body.
Why Zipper Stability Matters in Knitwear
Unlike woven fabric, knitted structures can stretch and recover around the zipper opening. This difference between a relatively stable zipper tape and a flexible knitted panel can affect the appearance of the front opening.
If the knit density, zipper tape, opening length and sewing tension are not properly coordinated, waviness or distortion can occur along the zipper edge.
The stand collar also needs sufficient structural balance to maintain its intended shape when the zipper is both open and closed.
For this reason, zipper alignment, collar dimensions and knit tension should be reviewed together during sampling.
Fit, Color & Private Label Customization
The relaxed body, dropped shoulders, sleeve length and garment measurements can be adjusted according to the buyer’s tech pack or target size chart.
Camel and brown can be used as reference colors, while alternative yarn colors can be developed according to available yarn cards and project requirements.
Private-label options can include custom woven labels, care labels, hangtags and packaging.
Sampling & Quality Control
A development sample is recommended before bulk production to confirm yarn, gauge, garment measurements, collar shape, zipper length, zipper alignment, knit structure and branding details.
Quality control is based on the approved sample and buyer specifications. Inspection points can include garment measurements, knit consistency, zipper alignment, collar symmetry, seam and linking appearance, finishing, labels and packaging.
